画电话(活动)

LESSON 1: Balaam and His Donkey
This lesson will help younger children understand that although they may not see God, He is always there to guide them along the way.

AS KIDS ARRIVE (10 minutes)

Hide donkey cutouts (one for each child) in various places around the room that can be easily found according to the ages of your children. As they arrive, have them search for one donkey, then take it to the table and color the donkey as desired.

Sing this little song several times with the children to help them memorize this short verse. BIBLE STORY (15 minutes)
Let the children hold their donkeys during story time. After the introduction, read the children's version of the story. As an option, you can read the story about Balaam and his donkey directly from the Bible.
Introduction:
Our Bible story today is from the Old Testament of the Bible. It is about a donkey that belonged to a man named Balaam. However, this was no ordinary donkey. Let's find out what was so special about this cute animal.

Discussion Questions:
1. Did God want Balaam to go to Moab? (No.)
2. But did Balaam obey God? (No.)
3. What did the donkey see on the road to Moab? (An angel of the Lord with a sword.)
4. How did Balaam treat his donkey? (Bad, he beat her with a stick three times.)
5. Why wasn’t Balaam able to see the angel of the Lord at first? (Although God tried to guide Balaam to do the right thing, Balaam did not listen, instead he chose to disobey God.)
6. Should we ever do anything the Lord doesn't want us to do? (No.) Why? (Allow for answers.)

ALTERNATE FUN TIME (10 minutes)
Telephone Draw (Activity)
Like the familiar game "Telephone" but instead of words, use pictures. Have the children sit down at the table with pencil and paper and close their eyes. The teacher starts by drawing a simple picture, for example a house, car, or dog, and shows it to the first child. The first child opens his or her eyes and draws the same picture. Then he or she shows their picture to the next child in turn, who repeats the drawing, and so on until the last child draws a picture. Compare the first and last pictures to see how much they have changed.
Use this activity to explain to the children that God doesn't always use words to tell us what to do, but if we pay attention, we will know He is there to guide us.

Start by praying to God and thanking Him for guiding us each day. While enjoying a snack, talk about how God guides us in our lives today by giving us the Bible, teachers, parents, and many others to keep us from doing the wrong thing.
