LESSON 3: JOSEPH FORGIVES HIS BROTHERS

BIBLE VERSE (5 minutes) “Forgive us as we forgive others." Matthew 6:12 GW Explain that we should forgive others for their mistakes, just as God forgives us when we make mistakes.
BIBLE STORY (15 minutes) Gather the children around you in preparation for story time. After the introduction, read the story about when Joseph made himself known to his brothers right from the Bible. If possible, use a Children's Bible so it will be easier for the kids to understand. Introduction: In today's lesson, Joseph makes himself known to his brothers who had sold him into slavery many years before. Joseph tells his brothers not to be afraid because God had sent him to Egypt to save lives and preserve the Israeli people. Read Genesis 45:1-14 (Joseph Makes Himself Known) Discussion Questions: 1. What did Joseph do once all of his attendants had left the room? (He made himself known to his brothers and then wept loudly.) 2. Joseph asked his brothers if their father was still living. Why couldn't his brothers answer him? (Joseph's brothers were terrified when they found out he was their brother.) 3. Why would Joseph's brothers be terrified? (Joseph's brothers had sold him into slavery many years before.) 4. Was Joseph mad at his brothers? (No, Joseph forgave his brothers and told them not to be upset about selling him into Egypt.) 5. Why wasn't Joseph angry with his brothers? (Joseph knew that it was God who sent him to Egypt.) 6. Why did God sent Joseph to Egypt? (To save lives and preserve the Israeli people.) 7. What did Joseph instruct his brothers to do? (To bring their father and all of his household to Egypt to live.)
