WORLD WITHOUT RULES
A world without rules would be chaotic, just as a game without rules would be pointless. TOPICS: Commandments, Morality, Obedience
MATERIALS: A classic board game
DURATION: Approximately 5 minutes
WHAT YOU WILL DO: Have the children gather around the table. Open the box and start setting up the board game. This object talk works best if you use a game that is familiar to the children.
WHAT YOU WILL SAY: Today we will play this classic board game a new way. Today we will play this game without rules; you can play the game any way that you would like. I will start, I get five turns before any of you get a turn. I also get to skip spaces if I do not like them. If I want to, I can move backwards or forwards. What kind of rules that they will be using? (Allow time for the kids to mention the rules they would like to play by.) Well it doesn't really matter what rules you want to play by because there are no rules and we can all play any way that we want. Let's start. (After just a few moments, if it takes that long, the kids will loudly protest that the game does not make any sense! Agree with them and continue.) Did you know that there are some people in the world that think God's rules don't apply to them? These people think that they can live outside of the rules that God has set up, they ignore God's laws and think people that follow God's laws are silly. Just as we need rules to play a game, the world needs God's laws to keep us from self-destructing. Can you imagine a world without law and order, a chaotic place where people do what ever they liked? At first it may seem kind of fun, but the world would quickly become a dangerous place. Without law and order, people could lie, steal, cheat, and kill without being punished. We would not want to live in this type of world.
