SAMARITAN WOMAN AT THE WELL

MATERIALS: 1/2 Pringles® can (12 oz.juice cans will also work) 1/2 Black film canister or small cup Craft sticks (popsicle size) Pipe cleaners (cut in half and quarters) Well Cover page [PDF] Click here People cut-out page [PDF] Click here White or wood glue Markers or crayons Double sided foam tape Butterfly and flower stickers (optional)

PREPARATION: Print and make copies of the Well Cover and People cut-out pages for each child. Have a wonderful person with a nice saw cut your Pringles® cans and film canisters in half. Clean out the cans. By saving the plastic lid you can use either half to make the well. Use a single hole punch to punch 2 holes opposite each other in the film canister. Put a 1/4" diameter pipe cleaner through the holes in the film canister to make the handle for the well bucket. Cut to size and bend to secure. Cut pipe cleaners in half to be used by the kids to attach the bucket to the well. Then cut 2 craft sticks for each well so they are flat on one and attach the double-sided foam tape to the rounded end of each craft sticks (lining them up and taping 10 to 20 at one time and using a sharp knife to cut them apart is much quicker.) Cut one craft stick to about 3 inches long for the top of each well.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: Have the kids cut out and glue 4 people onto their Well Covers as shown in the example. Have them use crayons or markers to draw clothes on the people. Next they can add flower and butterfly stickers or draw some on the Well Covers. Then have them glue or tape the Well Covers around the can. Have them take off the paper from the double-sided foam tape and tape the sticks onto the outside of the cans. (You can tape them to the inside of the can if you like, so long as the sides are free from any grease.) Then have the kids use the pipe cleaner cut in half to wrap around the 3" craft stick and the bucket handle. Use wood glue to fasten the 3" craft stick to the top of the well. Let dry 15 to 30 minutes before sending home. Remind the kids that the top of the well is not the handle, and it should be carried by the bottom.
WHAT YOU WILL SAY: Everyone is different. Sometimes our differences involve our skin tone, wearing glasses, our hair color, being in a wheel chair or having other physical or mental challenges. But God has made all of us, and we are all made in His image.
