CHOOSING PEACE
The children will think critically about ways to encourage unity. by Leah Pittsinger TOPICS: Peace, Unity MATERIALS: Activity page [pdf] - Click here Scissors DURATION: Approximately 10 minutes
PREPARATION: Print the handout and cut out the prompts.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: Keep one prompt and then pass out the rest of the prompts to volunteers. Begin the activity by reading your prompt and brainstorming with the class how to “choose peace/unity” for the given circumstance. Then ask the volunteers to take turns reading their prompts to continue the class discussion.
Application: This activity hopefully gives us some ideas about how we can respond with Biblical peace whenever we face a challenging circumstance (even when we’ve done nothing to cause a conflict). God expects believers to work toward unity (working together for His glory), and it’s our responsibility to speak the truth in love, embrace humility, and serve without ulterior motives. And, when God’s people are unified, others will want to know Him too.
