CHRISTMAS DISTRACTIONS

In this activity, students will create a silly story about things that can distract us from the true meaning of Christmas. by Lauren Shelnutt TOPICS: Birth of Jesus, Celebration, Choices, Christmas, Family, Honor God

MATERIALS: Activity pages [PDF] Click here Pencils DURATION: Approximately 15 minutes


PREPARATION: Print a copy of the "Distractions of Christmas Think Sheet" and "My Story of Christmas Distractions" for each student in class. Fill out a “Distractions Think Sheet” for yourself and be ready to share your completed “Story of Distractions” with the class.

WHAT YOU WILL SAY: Today, as you get settled in your seat I want you to fill out the “Distractions of Christmas Think Sheet.” As you fill in the blanks have fun, be unique and be creative with your answers. We will use our completed “Think Sheets” in the second part of this activity and you will share your answers with the class. (After students have completed the “Think Sheet.) Okay, now that you have finished your “Think Sheet” please take your answers and use them to fill in the blanks on “The Story” page that I am passing out now. Use the numbers to correctly fill in the corresponding blanks of the story. Now that you have filled it out, let me share my story with you. (Read your Story Page.) Does anyone else want to share his or hers? (Choose as many students as time allows to share their “Story Page.”) This activity was silly and fun, but I hope it isn’t true for you! When we celebrate Christmas, it is easy to get caught up doing so many different things that we lose sight of what Christmas is all about. We miss the important things—we forget why we celebrate and whom we are celebrating!
