FRIEND SEARCH
A game where finding a friend teaches something about patience.
TOPICS: Friendship, Patience
MATERIALS: Two blindfolds At least 8 people
DURATION: Approximately 20 minutes
WHAT YOU WILL DO: Choose two kids to be blindfolded. (With older children, you may want to pick two boys or two girls.) The rest of the kids along with teachers and helpers form a large circle and hold hands. Place the two blindfolded kids inside the circle at opposite ends. Then turn them around a few times. When you give the signal, they will try to find each other without making any sounds. The other kids keep the two inside the circle by repeating the words "Wall, Wall, Wall" whenever they get close to the edge. Once the two blindfolded kids find each other, they become friends, and then pick two other kids to play. If time permits, give each child a chance to be inside the circle.
WHAT YOU WILL SAY: Today we are going to play a game where two of you must find each other to become friends. What makes this difficult however is that you will be unable to see or speak. It will require a great deal of patience. Are there two of you who would like to go first? Pick two kids to be friends, and put blindfolds on them.
Now I would like for everyone else to join hands and make a big circle around these two. Once everyone is in place, give the following instructions for the game:
1. The object is for the two blindfolded kids to find each other and become friends 2. Do not start until teacher says go 3. You can not leave the circle, nor say anything 4. Try to find each other as fast as you can, but without touching the wall 5. If you touch the wall, you must turn around once 6. Everyone holding hands, your job is to keep the two inside the circle 7. When they get close to you, say the word "WALL" over and over 8. When you locate each other, shake each other's hand to end the game
