OLD OR NEW?
The children will understand God’s promise to make everything new. by Leah Pittsinger TOPICS: Restoration MATERIALS: 12 paper lunch sacks 12 Props (new and old/used for each item): pencil, Play-doh, bouncy ball, slinky, sidewalk chalk, nail polish, etc. Marker DURATION: Approximately 10 minutes
PREPARATION: Use the marker to number the bags 1-12. Then mix up the items and put one item in each bag. Place the bags in order on a table.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: Explain to the class that the bags hold 12 items that are either old or new. Then volunteers will take turns choosing a bag and pulling out each item. Consider asking each volunteer to use one descriptive word for the item (e.g. ugly, shiny, fun, etc.).
Application: When given the choice, most of us would probably want something new instead of something that has been used. Getting a new toy, game, or other possession is exciting, isn’t it? Well, did you know God is going to make everything new one day? Right now, we live in an imperfect world, but God promises to deal with the curse of sin once and for all and restore the world back to Him. And we can all choose to live a “new” life by receiving salvation and asking God to forgive our sins. We can praise God for giving us new spiritual life through salvation and hope in the promise of creation being made new again one day.
