Share Your Heart

A scramble to trade hearts with the other kids so everyone has the right colors.

Approximately 10 minutes

PREPARATION:

Before class, cut paper hearts out of three different colors, such as red, blue and green. If you are playing this game during Valentine's Day, you may want to use red, pink and white. Hearts can be any size, but the larger they are, the more fun the kids will have. Have one heart of each color for every child you expect to be in class. For example, for nine kids you want to have exactly nine red, nine green, and nine blue hearts to play the game.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

To begin the game, first make sure you have the correct number of hearts to hand out to the children. Start with one child and give him or her three of the same color. Continue with that color for the next child until that color runs out, then go the next color and do the same. This way, a child may end up with two colors, but no one will have all three different colors.

Tell the kids that these hearts represent the three types of love, or you can let them represent the three persons of God: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Explain that they must get one of all three colors, by trading with the other kids. Explain that they can only trade one heart at a time. Once completing a trade, they must go to a different child to make the next trade if needed, until they have one of each color. If no trade is possible, they must go and find someone else who can give up the color they need. The object is for the whole class to have one of each color heart in their hand for the game to be over. You can use the stopwatch to see how fast they are able to do this. After the first try, and if time permits play again to see if they can beat their previous time.God does not hide his love. He wants everyone to know and feel how much love he has for us. That is why He gave us the Holy Spirit, so we can know and feel His love. The Bible says, "And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." (Romans 5:5) But God's love is not for us alone. It is meant to be shared with others. Today, share one of your hearts and your love with someone you know.
