Watered

Followers of Christ are a lot like gardens. We must drink in God's living water each day to remain healthy.

TOPICS:

Fruitfulness, Spiritual Growth

MATERIALS:

Live flowerCup of sandBowl

DURATION:

Approximately 5 minutes

PREPARATION:

Before class, obtain the materials listed above.

WHAT YOU WILL SAY:

(While standing in front of the class, pour the cup of sand into the bowl. Then, show the flower to the class.) What is the difference between a garden and a desert? (Allow for answers.) To remain beautiful a garden must receive water. Without it, all the plants would die and the land would become a giant dust bowl.

Followers of Christ are a lot like gardens. We must drink in God's living water each day to remain healthy. Without God's presence, which is obtained through the Holy Spirit,by reading God's Word, and prayer, our spiritual lives will literally dry up.

We should avoid those things that will dry us out spiritually, such as anger, disrespect, hatred, jealousy, lying, pride, selfishness, strife, and un-forgiveness.

Ask a volunteer to read Philippians 4:8-9 and have the other students follow along in their Bibles.

Discussion Questions:

1. What do you think God would consider true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy?

2. What does God tell us to put into practice in Philippians 4:9?

3. Is your spiritual life more like a beautiful garden or a dry desert?
