MEMORY WORK (12 minutes)
"I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word." Psalm 119:101 NIV
Use masking tape to create a straight line on the floor about ten feet long. After reading the verses together a few times, have the children line up near the line on the floor. Then, have each child walk the line while repeating the verses from memory. If he or she becomes stuck along the way, the other children can help. While walking the line, the child must place one foot directly in front of the other, always touching the line. If one foot misses the line, or if the child loses his or her balance, he or she must try again. Continue until everyone is able to walk the line at least once.
SCRIPTURE READING AND DISCUSSION (20 minutes)
Introduction:
The Apostle Paul traveled from town to town to start new churches and preach the Good News. Along the way, many people came to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. Eventually, Paul arrived back in Jerusalem.
Shortly after his arrival, some angry Jews accused Paul of bringing Greeks into the temple (Acts 21:28). They started a riot and even tried to kill him. Soon, the Roman commander stepped in to arrest Paul and send him to Jail. They kept him in jail for two years. He pleaded his case before many officials. Finally, the King ordered Paul to go to Rome and stand trial before Caesar.
Along with many other prisoners, Paul boarded a ship for Rome. As they sailed, the weather started to get rough. Paul warned the ship's captain not to go on, but he didn't listen. Eventually, they found themselves in the midst of a fierce hurricane.
Read Acts 27:13-26 (The Storm)
Discussion Questions:
1. What happened to the ship during the trip to Rome? (A storm came and drove it into the middle of the sea.)
2. How did the men on the ship feel? (They were afraid.)
3. What did they do to make the ship lighter? (They threw the cargo and tackle overboard.)
4. How did Paul know everyone would be safe? (An angel told him to not be afraid.)
5. What did Paul do after he received the message from the angel? (He believed, and so told the others aboard the ship.)
6. According to verse 22, what was going to happen to the ship? (It would be destroyed.)
Read Acts 27:27-44 (The Shipwreck)
Discussion Questions:
1. According to verse 27, how long did the storm last? (Two weeks.)
2. How many people were onboard the ship? (276) Why is this significant? (To describe the size of the ship and the greatness of God's mercy.)
3. What happened to the ship after it struck the reef? (It was broken to pieces.)
4. How did the men on the ship get safely to the island? (Some swam to shore, others reached safety on planks or pieces from the ship.)
5. How do you think the men felt about Paul after they were safe on the island? (Allow for answers.)
6. What does this story tell us about placing our complete trust in Jesus? (In some situations, we may want to react a certain way. However, we should always listen carefully to the Lord and do what He tells us to do, remembering that He cares for us.)

APPLICATION (4 minutes)
From today's lesson, we should now be able to know that God cares for us. That's why He asks us to trust Him, just like Paul did while in the midst of a violent hurricane. We must believe God and do what He says, and put our complete trust in Jesus.
God sent Jesus to show us the way to Heaven. We need to believe that in our hearts, not just in our heads. When we do, we become a child of God. He will show us many things to encourage us and help us get through rough times. God's promise to care for His children is forever.
