开始祷告(5-10分钟)

团队建立(10分钟)

我们要看看谁的平衡能力最好。大家一起围成一个紧密的圆圈，单脚站立，然后设法把彼此推得失去平衡。

规则很简单：你必须留在原地，用一只脚站立，直到有人使你失去平衡。如果你的脚移动了，或者身体倒下，就要出局。最后仍然站立的人获胜。

随着参赛者不断出局，可以按需要缩小圆圈。

为了增加难度，可以规定每个人只能使用一只手，甚至只能使用一根手指。更好的做法是，用不同规则多玩几轮。

开始(5分钟)

一般讨论：

• 保持平衡困难吗？（困难！）

• 为什么？（因为只有一只脚着地，而且别人还在攻击你。）

Lessons from Revelation

Lesson 1: Stand Firm

OPENING PRAYER (5 to 10 minutes)

GROUP BUILDING (10 minutes)

We are going to see who has the best balance. Together we will form a tight circle, stand on one foot, and then try to push each other off balance.

The rules are simple. You must stay in place, standing on one foot, until someone knocks you off balance. If you move your foot or fall over, you are out. Last one standing wins.

Tighten the circle as needed as players are eliminated from the game.

To make it harder, you can allow players to use just one hand or even one finger. Best yet, play a variety of ways several times.

GETTING STARTED (5 minutes)

General Discussion:

• Was it hard to stay on balance? (Yes!)

• Why? (You only had one foot on the ground and people were attacking.)

• That was fun, but it was really meant to give you a picture of life. Do you ever feel like it is hard to stand strong in life? (Allow for discussion.)

• Who or what is trying to knock you over? (Allow for discussion. Some examples of challenges could be attacks from the devil, unbalanced spiritual lives, etc.)

There are many Scriptural references, which encourage us to stand firm, to hold our ground, to remain faithful no matter what. The book of Revelation is no exception.

DIGGING IN (15 minutes)

Let's look in depth at two short passages of Scripture in Revelation. In each, we receive some great encouragement about how to stand firm.

Read Revelation 2:9-10

Discussion Questions:

1. What difficulties do the people to whom John is writing face in this passage?? (Affliction, poverty, slander, and fear.)

2. What is his encouragement to them? (Not to fear what they are about to suffer.)

3. What are they about to suffer? (Imprisonment, opposition, persecution.)

4. For how long are they instructed to remain faithful? (Until death.)

5. What will be their reward if they stand firm? (A crown of life.)

Even though the people—this passage is written to believers in Smyrna—are facing great opposition, they are told to stand firm. They are reminded to be faithful.

If they remain faithful, they will receive a great reward—eternal life.

Read Revelation 12:10-12

Discussion Questions:

1. Between whom is the battle taking place within this passage? (The accuser and our brothers and sisters in Christ.)

2. Though the devil is powerful, how did the persecuted Christians prevail? (By the Blood of the Lamb.)

3. How is it possible that a martyred Christian could actually win? (Because of Jesus, he or she will live forever in glory even though his or her body was put to death.)

4. What did these believers not love, even unto death? (Their own lives.)

5. What does verse 12 depict in response to this great victory? (Rejoicing in Heaven and the devil’s judgment.)

It is not without precedent, that the Bible talks about believers standing firm, even in the face of death. In the early church, people often followed Jesus at the risk of their own lives. They were encouraged to stand firm—and they did.

 

MAKING IT REAL (15 minutes)

As encouragement, we will look up several verses to encourage one another to stand firm. (In the NIV, all of these verses include the exact phrase “stand firm.” Other translations may vary, but they should still encourage the reader.)

Have several volunteers read the following passages:

Luke 21:19

Matthew 24:13

James 5:8

1 Thessalonians 3:8

2 Thessalonians 2:15

1 Peter 5:9

1 Corinthians 15:58

That last one is great: Stand firm! Let nothing move you! This phrase, used frequently in the Bible, means to be fixed in place. We should not budge spiritually and for good reason, as well see in this next passage.

Read Revelation 7:9-10

Discussion Questions:

1. Where is the standing happening in this passage? (Around the Throne of God.)

2. Who is there? (People from every tribe, tongue, and nation.)

3. What are they doing? (Worshipping God.)

Interestingly, the same phrase—stand firm—is used here. When we stand firm in this life in the face of opposition, we will be fixed in place around God’s Throne, in perfection, bliss, and wonder for all eternity.

Like the earliest Christians, standing firm is worth it because our reward is great and Jesus is worthy.

CLOSING PRAYER (2 minutes)

Pray for courage. Pray for faith. Pray for perseverance. Pray for stamina. Pray that your students will stand firm.
