BIBLE STORY (15 minutes)

Introduction:

Today we are going to read Chapter 4 in the book of Philippians. Paul is still writing to the Philippians as he is in prison. In his letters, he encourages the Philippians to be content. Content means to be happy with what have. Content means to rejoice in the Lord even when you don’t get what you want.

Read Philippians 4:4, 10-13

Discussion Questions:

1. Who writes the letters to the Philippians? (Paul.)

2. What is a need? (Food, water, shelter, clothing.)

3. Is Paul in need? (He says no because he has food, water, shelter, and clothes. Paul has what he needs to live.)

4. What is a want? (Allow children to respond. Items that you can live without. Examples: toys, candy, big home, fancy car, etc.)

5. Does Paul want the Philippians to give him things he doesn't need? (No. He is thankful that they given him what they could.)

6. How do think Paul could be content (happy) in jail? (Allow children to respond. He rejoiced in the Lord always, knowing that God wants what is best for him. He didn’t want to be in jail, but he didn’t grumble or complain.)

7. Do you think God will provide for your needs? (Allow children to respond.)
