Approximately 15 minutes

WHAT YOU WILL SAY:

We are going to make two lists on the whiteboard. What are some things that your parents do for you? (Write replies on the left side of the board.) For which of these do you verbally thank your parents? (Circle corresponding answers.)What are some things that God does for you? (Write replies on the right side of the board.) For which of these do you thank God through prayer? (Circle corresponding answers.)

Discussion on Giving Thanks:

1. Why do think it is important to thank God? (When we give thanks, we acknowledge our dependence on God and His sovereignty in providing for our needs.)

2. How does being thankful make you feel? (Allow for discussion.)

3. How does being thankful affect those who have helped you? (Allow for discussion.)

Discussion on Giving Praise:

Praising the Lord is slightly different from just thanking Him. When we praise God, we are reminding ourselves of whom He is, which can help build our faith. The Lord becomes our focus when we exalt and praise Him.

1. How often should we focus on the Lord? (All the time, in both the good times and the bad.)

2. What are some ways in which we can praise the Lord? (Allow for discussion.)

3. Why do you think people forget to praise God during good times or bad times? (Allow for discussion.)
