开始祷告(5-10分钟)


团队建立(10分钟)

开始学习以前，我们先玩一个游戏，看看哪一队能收集最多的棉球。游戏分为两队。（把学生分成两队，第1队的人数要明显少于第2队。人数较少的一组为第1队，人数较多的一组为第2队。）


把棉球撒满地面，收集最多棉球的队伍获胜。（如果没有棉球，也可以使用任何其他物品，例如圆珠笔、便利贴、索引卡等。）


不过，游戏有一个特别之处：无论发生什么，第1队都会被宣布为获胜者。


（许多学生一开始可能没有发现，即使第1队收集的棉球更少，他们仍然获胜。可以重复玩几次，直到所有人都开始意识到第1队总会获胜。学生可能会抗议游戏不公平，但这并不是重点。请在下面“课程开始”的部分，带领学生思考这次经历。）

读 启示录 19:1-4

请再读一遍这段经文。这一次，闭上眼睛，试着想象自己所听见的画面。


讨论问题：

  1. 第二次听这段经文时，你看见了怎样的画面？（神、宝座、许多群众、众长老、活物等。）

  2. 你是否完全明白这些经文？为什么明白，或为什么不明白？（让学生讨论。）

  3. 众人正在向谁歌唱、敬拜？（神。）

读 启示录 19:5-10

读 启示录 2:2-3

Lesson 2: Jesus Wins

OPENING PRAYER (5 to 10 minutes)


GROUP BUILDING (10 minutes)

Before we start our study, we are going to play a game to see who can collect the most cotton balls. There will be two teams. (Split your group into two teams, with noticeably less players on team 1. Designate the smaller group as Team 1 and the larger group as Team 2.)


Cotton balls will be spilled all over the ground, the team that collects the most cotton balls win. (If you don’t have cotton balls, you can use anything—ink pens, post-it notes, index cards, etc.)


Here is the catch. No matter what happens, Team 1 will always be declared the winner.


(Many students may not realize immediately that Team 1 won even though they collected fewer cotton balls. Play the game several times until all the players begin to realize that Team 1 always wins. The students might protest that the game is unfair, but that is not the point. Unpack the experience in the Getting Started portion of the lesson.)


GETTING STARTED (5 minutes)

General Discussion:

• How was this game different from most? (The winner was predetermined.)

• How did knowing that Team 1 would always win change how you played? (Maybe you did not try as hard, maybe you complained, maybe you did not let obstacles get in your way, maybe you just let loose and had fun.)


The game today was unfair, but do not focus on that. Instead, focus on how you played the game when you knew who was going to win, even before the game started. This knowledge changed the way you behaved; it changed your attitude.


Today, we will talk about knowing who wins in this life and the next.


DIGGING IN (15 minutes)

Today, we are going to look at the entire chapter of Revelation 19. As we read, we will stop along the way to make some observations. As we do, each observation will underscore one indisputable point:


No matter how confusing Revelation can be, we can be certain that in the end, Jesus wins.


Read Revelation 19:1-4

The passage will be read again, but this time close your eyes and try to picture what you hear.


Discussion Questions:

1. Describe what you saw as the passage was read a second time? (God, a throne, great multitude, elders, creatures, etc.)

2. Do you understand everything about these passages of Scripture? Why or why not? (Allow for discussion.)

3. Who is being sung to and worshiped? (God.)

4. What are some of the words used to praise Him? (Praise, hallelujah, glory, etc.)

5. Who do you think is the winner in this passage—good or evil? (Good.)


Read Revelation 19:5-10

Let’s repeat the same exercise. As the passage is read a second time, close your eyes and picture what you hear.


Discussion Questions:

1. What did you see this time as the passage was read? (More people, an angel, pure white, etc.)

2. Describe the sounds mentioned: “roar of many waters” or “mighty peals of thunder.” What do you think that was like? (A huge thunderstorm, a huge waterfall, etc.)

3. According to verse 9, who is “blessed”? (Those invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.)

4. Why did the angel reject the author’s worship? (He was just a servant of Jesus.)

5. Who is portrayed as the winner in this passage—Jesus or someone else? (Jesus.)


Read Revelation 19:11-21One last time, close your eyes, as this passage is re-read. It affords us some of the most vivid images in the entire chapter.


Discussion Questions:

1. Is the picture of Jesus in these verses how you normally picture Him? (Allow for discussion.)

2. How is Jesus described in these verses? (He is described as a Conqueror, a Warrior, and a Victor.)

3. What is written on His robe and thigh? (King of kings and Lord of lords.)

4. Even taken figuratively, are these images of a winner or a loser? (A winner.)

5. Who does Jesus defeat according to verses 17-21? (The beast and the kingdoms of this world.)

 

MAKING IT REAL (15 minutes)

At times, it seems as though Jesus isn't winning, doesn't it?


Discussion Questions:

• What are some things in the world today that make it seem like Jesus is losing? (War, famine, evil, murder, persecution, etc.)

• Are there times in your life when it seems like Jesus is losing? (Tough times at home, loss of a loved one, etc.)

• Why do you think that? If Jesus is going to win, why doesn’t He put a stop to all the evil in the world today? (There is no right or wrong answer; we all wrestle with this question.)


However bad the world seems today, we need to recognize that it’s no worse today than it was in the past. In fact, originally, the book of Revelation was written to encourage Christians who were suffering.


Let’s go back to the beginning to get some insight into this.


Read Revelation 2:2-3

Discussion Questions:

1. What words are used in the passages that give us clues that life was tough for the early Christians? (Patience, endurance, bearing, etc.)

2. Do you think the earliest Christians wondered if Jesus would lose? (Maybe...they were not much different from us.)


Read Revelation 2:9-10

Discussion Questions:

1. What words are used in the passages that tell us about the condition of the Christians during this time? (Tribulation, suffering, prison, etc.)


Life has always been hard for people seeking to follow Jesus. Our lives are not perfect. When we look around, we see signs of defeat, despair, fatigue, and failure. Revelation is clear—remember the passages we just read from Revelation 19—Jesus wins in the end!In the end, it’s Jesus at the center of Heaven.


In the end, it’s Jesus on the white horse.

In the end, it’s Jesus conquering His enemies.

In the end, it’s Jesus' followers live forever.


Discussion Questions (continued):

2. How do you think these images of Jesus in Revelation 19 encouraged the early Christians? (Allow for discussion.)

3. How do they encourage you? (They let us know there is hope.)

4. How should this knowledge change the way you live? If you know you’re going to win in the end, how should you live now? (Boldly, with courage, don't be discouraged when trouble comes.)


Just like the game we played in the beginning of class, it doesn’t matter what happens—the winner is already decided. With that in mind, we should not let anything bring us down because Jesus wins!


CLOSING PRAYER (2 minutes)

Invite students to pray to Jesus prayers of thanksgiving that He, and by extension they, are victorious.
