今天的故事里，有一位名叫尼布甲尼撒的王攻占了耶路撒冷城。这位邪恶的王把但以理和他的朋友们掳到了一个叫巴比伦的地方。在那里，但以理和三位朋友受到诱惑，可以享用王丰富美味的食物。但是，如果他们吃这些食物，就会违背神赐给他们的律法。那么，这些年轻人会听从王，还是继续顺服神呢？让我们一起来看看。

讨论问题：

1. 为什么但以理和朋友们不愿意吃王的食物？

因为这些食物曾献给偶像（假神），按照神的律法已经成为不洁净的食物。

THE PROPHET DANIEL

LESSON 1: A Meal Fit for a King

This lesson will introduce the children to a young man named Daniel. They will learn that from an early age, Daniel and three of his friends chose to live by God's standards, even if it meant standing up to the king.

AS KIDS ARRIVE (10 minutes)

As the children arrive, play some worship music and lead the children in some healthy exercises like jumping jacks or running in place.

BIBLE VERSE (7 minutes)

"Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right." Proverbs 20:11 NIV (1984)

Practice this verse with the children, explaining that sometimes our actions speak louder than words.

BIBLE STORY (15 minutes)

Gather the children around you in preparation for story time. After the introduction, read the story right from the Bible. If possible, use a Children's Bible so it will be easier for the kids to understand.

Introduction:Gather the children around you in preparation for story time. In today's lesson, a king named Nebuchadnezzar has captured the city of Jerusalem. The evil king has carried Daniel and his friends off to a place called Babylon. While in captivity Daniel and three of his friends are tempted to enjoy the king's rich and tasty food. If the boys decide to eat the king's food they will break the rules God has given them. Will the young men listen to the evil king and break God's rules or will the boys continue to obey God?

Read Daniel 1:1-21 (Daniel's chooses to honor God)

Discussion Questions:

1. Why didn't Daniel and his friends want to eat the king's food? (The food had been offered to idols [false gods] and thus according to God's law had become impure for them to eat.)

2. Because the boys didn't want to eat or drink anything impure what did they ask to be served instead? (Vegetables and water.)

3. Why was the chief official, who was in charge of the boys, afraid to let them eat just vegetables and drink only water? (The official was afraid that he would be in trouble with the king if Daniel and his friends looked worse than the other young men.)

4. How did Daniel and his friends look after a ten day test of eating nothing but vegetables and drinking only water? (They were stronger and looked healthier than those who ate the king's food.)

5. Daniel and his friends continued to obey God, how did God reward the boys? (God gave them knowledge and understanding of all kinds of things.)

6. After the time of training was complete, the chief official presented the boys to King Nebuchadnezzar. What did the king think about Daniel and his friends? (He found the boys ten times better than all the other wise men in his whole kingdom.)
