STAR HUNT
In this fun activity, students will use star clues to find a special treasure that reminds them to seek Jesus daily. by Lauren Shelnutt TOPICS: Birth of Jesus, Christmas, Following Jesus
MATERIALS: Star Clues [PDF] Click here Box (Bible size), giftwrap paper Tape, scissors, Bible Candy prize for each child DURATION: Approximately 15 minutes
PREPARATION: Take the Bible and the small candies that you have (Note: It will be inaccessible until the activity has been completed) and place them in a box. Wrap the box with giftwrap and tape to make it look like a beautiful Christmas gift. Print the Star Clue pages and cut them out. Hide the clues in the suggested places: Clue #1: Under chair Clue #5: On shelf Clue #9: TeacherClue #2: Teacher’s shoeClue #6: On ceilingClue #10: Gift hiding spotClue #3: On the wallClue #7: On the door Clue #4: Under table/deskClue #8: On floor
Choose a very good hiding place in the room to hide the gift box with the Bible and be sure to write that location on Star Clue #10 in the __________.
WHAT YOU WILL SAY: Today, I want to send you on a search. Just like the wise men, I challenge you all to work together as a class to find a treasure worth searching for! Now, your search would be almost impossible without directions as you must find each star in the proper order; otherwise you lose the challenge. But, I have laid out a special set of clues on yellow stars. These stars are hidden throughout the room. Each star has a special clue that you must use to continue your search. At the end of our hunt, you will find a special treasure worth the wait. We will begin with clue number one [hand the students the first clue]. Note: Younger age groups may need help reading the clues or reaching up to get them from their hiding places. Help in whatever ways you are needed to keep the kids engaged and having fun! After the hunt has been completed. Lets take a moment to pass this gift around. Each of you please tear a small piece of wrapping paper off until it is unwrapped. Then, we will open the box together. Once box is opened. Inside, we have an enormously special gift from God—His Word! We also have a special treat for all your hard work. You can eat it right now while we continue to talk for a minute. In this book, we can read about Jesus, we can learn about God, and we can grow by following His directions for our life. Sometimes we take it for granted and let it sit on a shelf. But, did you know that if the wise men hadn’t studied God’s words and the prophecies about Jesus they would’ve missed that special star and they probably never would have met Jesus? We must read His Word and seek Him just like the wise men did if we want to be close to Jesus. So, this Christmas season, let's make sure we seek Jesus and take time to remember Him through worship and giving of our special gifts.
