Guess Whose Mom?

This scripture-matching activity will introduce the children to some very important mothers found in the Bible.A great activity for Mother's Day.

DURATION:

Approximately 25 minutes

PREPARATION

Print enough copies of the Bible verse handout to give one to each child. Print one copy of the volunteer handout and cut it into five sections. Also, print one copy of the Teacher's Guide for reference.

This is a two-part activity. First, the children will read about five special mothers in the Bible. Then, five volunteers will pretend to be children, and each will describe his or her mother to the rest of the class. The object is to guess the name of all five mothers described by the volunteers. As a bonus, the children can also guess the names of the children belonging to each mother.

PART 1 (Approximately 15 minutes)

What you will do:

Give each child one copy of the Bible verse handout. Have the children look up each reference in their Bibles, and read it once or twice to themselves. Allow plenty of time for this part of the activity.

What you will say:In our activity today, we will learn about some women in the Bible, who were blessed with children. These women found favor in God's eyes because they were faithful to Him. There are five passages from the Bible, and you need to read them all. There will be a fun game later to see how much you can remember, so read carefully.

PART 2 (Approximately 10 minutes)

What you will do:

Choose five volunteers to act as the child of each mother. Give each volunteer one of the five narratives from the volunteer handout. Have each volunteer read a narrative in front of the class one at a time. The kids will then guess whose mom each volunteer is describing. After getting the correct answer, the children can then guess the name of the child.

To add excitement, award each student 100 points for naming the correct mother, and another 200 points for knowing the name of the child played by the volunteer.
