BIBLE VERSE (7 minutes)

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:22:24 NIV

Read the verse out loud to the class. Then instruct the children to stand in a circle and pass around a bean bag while music plays (or a song is sung). When the music stops, the child holding the bean bag will repeat the verse after you, phrase by phrase. Continue this activity until all the children have had a chance to repeat the verse at least one time.

BIBLE STORY (15 minutes)

Introduction:

We have been learning to pray like Jesus. He taught His friends, the disciples, to pray with “The Lord’s Prayer.” It’s important to be respectful and pray for the right reasons, but do we believe God will answer every prayer? Today we will learn why we can believe that God will answer our prayers!

Read Luke 11:1-4, Mark 11:22-25 (God will answer our prayers.)

Discussion Questions:

1. What does Jesus ask for in His prayer? (For daily food/needs, forgiveness, and help with temptation so He won’t sin.)

2. Does God already know that we need these things? (Yes.)

3. Then why does the Bible tell us to pray? (Because our prayers show God that we know He loves us and will provide.)

4. What happens when we believe God will answer our prayers? (It will happen!)

5. If we truly believe God will answer our prayers, then what else must we do? (Be forgiving, or kind to someone who is mean to us.)

6. Does believing God will answer our prayers mean we will always get what we ask for? Why or why not? (No, because sometimes we ask for things that aren’t within His plan for us, even though we believe.)

7. Then why is believing God will answer our prayers important? (Because it shows God that we trust Him, love Him, and know that He can do anything!)

Conclusion:

Believing God will answer our prayers is very important! Truly believing God doesn’t mean we give up when He doesn’t answer our prayers the way we like – it means trusting that His plan is perfect. And because we know God is perfect and holy, our belief that He has the power to do anything shows Him that we love and trust Him.

PRAYER/SNACK (10 minutes)

Further info? Click here

Lead the children in a short prayer and then pass out a healthy snack (or you may use leftover Fruit Loops from the opening activity). While eating, talk about things that are easy to believe in, such as God’s love, a parent’s ability to take care of a child, a friend keeping his or her promise, etc. Then discuss things that may be hard to believe in, such as true forgiveness, God knowing our thoughts, or even God answering prayers. Help the children understand that God is more powerful than anything or anyone else in the universe, so even when it is hard for us to believe Him, we can trust that what His word says is true.
